Waatea School School Newsletter Success is not the work of one but the work of many. “Kia hoki whakamuri, kia anga whakamua” Look to the past in order to forge the future. Kia Ora e te whānau,  Please find the newsletter for Weeks 2/3. There is some important kaupapa up ahead for this term and next.  Whaea Zara Tumuaki New Administrator Our beautiful Whaea Leanne’s last day was on Friday, she was offered an opportunity for her and her whānau and had to make the tough decision to move forward. We thank Whaea Leanne for all the mahi she has done for our kura, children and whānau during the year. We wish you all the best Whaea Leanne!  Whaea Theresa will be monitoring office calls and completing absences in the morning until we find a replacement administrator.  Absences  There have been many absences this year, which is understandable considering the increase in COVID-19 infections and other illnesses circulating. Please remember, if your child is away SICK or for ANY OTHER REASON, the school must be informed. If we do not hear from whānau, your child is marked as truant. If a child has been marked truant for a certain amount of time, we then follow our school policy. Of course, we would like to take the proactive approach and would prefer to support our whānau using the support of Whānau Ora when and if need be. Please reach out if you require support, together we can achieve more!  NEW ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL PHONE To make things more easier for whānau to make contact, we have a new administration phone so whānau can text if they wish to record any absences or pass on any other pānui. If your child is absent you may receive a text to inform you that we have recorded your child as absent and that you will need to contact the school to give a reason as to why. Here are the contact details for the school: Email: admin@waatea.school.nz Phone: 0800 832 922 Website: www.waatea.school.nz Text: 021 706 450 PLEASE READ: BOARD ELECTIONS Celebration Hui  Every second Wednesday (Even weeks) we celebrate together and share our wins of the week. Whānau are encouraged to attend. If you would like to attend please sign in at the school office. Hui takes place in Tangaroa at 2pm.  DUFFY BOOK AWARDS In week one some of your tamaiti would have come home with their duffy book awards. You can support your child by reading to and with them at home.  #promotingreadingathome TEACHER ONLY DAYS – TERM 3 This term we have two scheduled Teacher only days. These days are used for Kaiako to upskill. These two days kaiako will be participating in professional development called Te Ara Whakamana, a Mana enhancement program for teaching and learning as Kaiako for our tamariki.  Thursday 25th August  Thursday 22nd September Waatea School Tamariki Sports Ka rawe Chase, who played his favourite sport over the weekend! A huge mihi to Whaea Jess who went and supported him!   If your child plays in a sports team or for a club of any sort, please let us know! We would love to be able to support our tamariki outside of the school.  Copyright © Waatea School 2022 Click here to unsubscribe.
